Colonial Parkway: A Ride Through Colonial American History Visit a place where history is alive before your eyes. A place where
buildings are truly authentic , the scenery is breathtaking and
untouched, and the people are always in character. Take a drive along
the Colonial
Parkway.
Colonial Parkway is a 23 mile long stretch of beauty that connects three of Virginia's most treasured historical sites; Jamestown, Yorktown and Williamsburg. Millions of people travel here each year to enjoy the beautiful nature and rich culture of this area. The parkway was completed in 1957 and was created to allow drivers to appreciate the surrounding landscape and beauty. Everything possible has been done to keep this area "pure" with limited commercial development or road signs in order to maintain its original beauty and condition. On the western end of the triangle lies historic Colonial Jamestown, the
birthday place of America. Here visitors can take a tour of the original
settlements with a National Park Service Ranger or talk with a 17th
century personality actor in character to learn about colonial America!
You can also find a living history museum showcasing historical Virginia
through film, gallery exhibits and fun outdoor activities on the
settlement. The last leg of Virginia's Historic Triangle is Historic Yorktown. Yorktown symbolizes the end of the English Colonial period in North America . Walk down picturesque streets that are lined with art galleries, antique and specialty shops. You can also hop on the trolley for a free site seeing tour! Work up an appetite and dine at one of the many charming restaurants Yorktown has to offer. 6 "Must-Dos" When Visiting Colonial Parkway 1) Bring a camera!
